AWANA: Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Timothy 2:15

The AWANA program is a Bible-centered youth ministry for preschoolers through fifth grade. Our goal is to reach boys and girls, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.

Under the leadership of our pastor and AWANA commander, our program focuses on a clear, consistent, and fun Bible memorization approach. Our caring leaders are dedicated to helping children come to know Christ in a personal way and then guiding them in their daily spiritual walk with the Lord.

The AWANA program is made up of three segments intertwined to be a fun way for children to learn and grow in the Word. These three segments are known as Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time.

Game Time
Game Time is made up of various Circle games that are unique to the AWANA program. Children love this time of the AWANA program. Our four color teams compete and develop an appreciation of working as a team. There is a competition in the spring with other area churches.

Handbook Time
Handbook Time is the time dedicated to Bible memorization. Our clubbers learn verses at home and recite them to their leaders. The Bible verses are reviewed with the leaders to ensure each child is not only memorizing the verses but also understanding them so that the children can use them in their daily lives. The books for the program use the King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Council Time
Council Time is the heart of the AWANA program. It is during council time each week that the gospel is clearly presented and a life application story is given. We use interactive stories, puppets, and skits. It is also during Council Time that we present our awards to the clubbers for their accomplishments that week.

AWANA Children’s Clubs

AWANA at Fox Island Alliance offers three different clubs, each geared to the needs of a particular age range.

Cubbies: Ages 4-5
Our youngest club, Cubbies is unique because it supports and maintains parents as the primary source of spiritual nurturing by directly involving them in the teaching and learning process.

The Sparks Club: Kindergarten-2nd Graders
In Sparks, children learn the basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation, and the Bible. In the three years that a child spends as a Sparky, he or she will learn over 50 Bible verses.

The Truth & Training Club: 3rd-5th Graders
T&T teaches boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and trains them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Upon completion of the program, a child will have learned several hundred Bible verses and studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testaments.
