LOVE THY NEIGHBORHOOD
In our vision to, "contend for the flourishing of Fox Island," we believe that gospel presence should precede gospel proclamation. In fact, that is why it was said of Jesus: "The Word took on flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood." We seek to live out the good news of God's love and care and redemption made available for all people by serving the particular ones around us. We do this in a variety of practical ways throughout the year.
Once a year, however, we cancel our normal Sunday gatherings, and use that time to serve our Fox Island community. We do yard work, household chores, home visits, gas buy-downs, free car washes, you name it--whatever island residents in need could use a hand with. 2016 was a great success--thanks to all who helped bless our island community this August! Stay tuned for next year's outreach.
Over 500 children in our community are at risk of having no food over the weekend if they can't receive meals through government programs at school. We, as a church, step in to fill that gap by collecting bags of non-perishable items once a month and working with our community partners to distribute the food to each child in need. Pick up your red bag from the church and bring it back full on the first Sunday of the month to help make a huge impact in our community!
ARTONDALE ELEM. PARTNERSHIP
Artondale Elementary is the closest school to Fox Island, and we are committed to seeing its students flourish. We partner with Artondale to support its staff and students throughout the year by volunteering as tutors, mentors, and a variety of other roles. Let us know if you'd like to join us in this important endeavor.
After a life-changing cross-cultural ministry trip in the 90’s, Mark and Cheryl Shafer eventually sold their business, left Fox Island Alliance Church and moved to Ecuador, where they have served as international workers since 2002. After a decade of ministry, they had a vision to found a training institute that would equip indigenous youth to be missionaries and send them out to the forgotten people throughout the jungles of Latin America. We were honored to contribute over $100,000 to that dream in 2012, and the Ninawachi Mission School was born. We continue to pray for and contribute to their work and send cross-cultural ministry teams most years to serve alongside their work in practical ways.
Home to the largest population on earth, China is also full of young, educated, and influential young adults who have never met a Christian. On the coast of this great land is an unprecedented ministry training center that has effectively discipled men and women from being skeptics and seekers to full-time ministry leaders. Thousands of lives have been impacted. We have been invited to step into this unique window of time and opportunity to come alongside and support these International Workers and Local Leaders in practical ways--in particular through cross-cultural ministry trips. The presence of American friends helps our partners build relationships and build goodwill with opportunities to share the good news. We hope you'll come with us!
